Orvis Michigan Schools are offered from late April through September and are designed to introduce the intricacies of fly fishing to an absolute novice, but even experienced fly anglers will find personal and advanced instruction tailored to their level of experience. It's time to sign up for the best dates. May and June school dates put you in the stream with hatching insects and rising fish. Hurry, these dates won't last long. Students spend classroom time learning about fly tackle, fly casting, fly selection, aquatic entomology, knots and fly fishing related subjects. Orvis Michigan students learn the details about fly tackle, aquatic entomology, fly selection, knots, and the industry's best fly casting instruction. You'll spend your first day at Orvis' formal classroom in The Homestead's spectacular Stoneybrook Lodge, and use it's casting field, and fully stocked trout pond. The second day of instruction will begin in our Traverse City classroom. After lunch, you'll spend the rest of the day in the beautiful Boardman River just south of town. As an Orvis Michigan Fly Fishing School student, all tackle, lunches, course materials and licenses are provided. All need to do is dress for the weather and bring some excitement.
