MATCH THE HATCH IN THE NORTHWOODS MOST EXCITING CITY

Fish Michigan‘s finest blue ribbon trout streams for wild rainbow, brown and brook trout. From Hendricksons to hex, local rivers offer a wide variety of prolific and challenging hatches. Knowledgeable and experienced Orvis Endorsed Guides will float you in fully outfitted drift boats or wade with you on miles of wadeable water including "flies only" and "catch and release" sections. Or, sign up for one of the two-day fly fishing schools at the Orvis Michigan Fly Fishing School located only minutes away on the shores of Lake Michigan at The Homestead Resort.

March and April bring beautiful chrome steelhead into local rivers. Our special Spring Steelhead school at the Homestead will show you how to fool these beauties. The Crystal River has that runs through the Resort has a good run each Spring and offers private water for test your technique. May ushers in little black caddis and Hendricksons for the “Gentlemen’s Hatch”. Yet it’s the sulfurs, brown drakes and hex that bring most anglers to our local rivers. Mayfly, caddis and stonefly hatches in May and June give way to good terrestrial fishing in July and August. You can even wade the Lake Michigan "flats" for the now famous "golden bones" (carp) in May, June and July. Late summer tricos and early fall baetis fishing will challenge an angler’s light tippet and eyesight. September’s fall colors announce the arrival of thousands of Chinook and coho salmon into the Crystal, Manistee, Platte and Betsie Rivers. Before you head out, check the hatch board at Streamside Orvis, or visit on-line to find the latest infomation.
